Health Insurance: WESA provides medical, dental (full time employees only), and vision insurance to all employees and eligible dependents. Benefits become effective on the first of the month following a 30-day waiting period, and the Authority contributes 90% of the premium cost of such insurance.

Life Insurance: WESA provides Life insurance to full-time employees at two (2) times the employee’s annual base salary. Dependents are insured at $1,000 each. Additional life insurance is available at reduced rates to employees and their dependents.

Retirement: Retirement is provided under the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and is based on a 2.7% at age 55 formula for Classic Members and 2% at 62 for PEPRA Members. Death benefits are included. Classic Members contribute 8% toward their retirement and PEPRA Members contribute 7.75% toward their retirement. The definition of Classic or PEPRA is assigned by PERS, according to their predetermined criteria.

Deferred Compensation: Deferred compensation is available on a voluntary basis to WESA employees. Contributions are made before taxes through payroll deduction. Employees can contribute up to a maximum of $23,000 per year. WESA does not contribute to these plans.

Flexible Spending Accounts: Employees have the option to set aside pre-tax money from their paycheck to pay for un-reimbursed medical expenses or dependent care expenses.

Workers’ Compensation: Employees with on-the-job injuries or illnesses are eligible for Workers’ Compensation benefits. Salary continuance is arranged through the WESA Human Resources department, with employees permitted to use a combination of accrued leave and their workers’ compensation benefits.
